First Album

I should be working. Then somebody (thanks oatmeal33) on Dailygammon posts something similar to finding out your pornstar name, but with albums. Ever alert at the opportunity to procrastinate, I leapt at the chance. For those who aren’t Dailygammoners – here’s the procedure:

1 – Go to wikipedia and hit random. The first random wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.

2 – Go to quotationspage.com and hit random. The last four or five words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.

3 – Go to flickr and click on “explore the last seven days”. Third picture no matter what it is…will be your album cover.

4 – Use photoshop or similar (picnik.com is a free online photo editor) to put it all together.

5 – Use imgur.com to host your album cover if you need to.

And here’s my first album!! OK – not really happy with the font at the bottom, but even I’m feeling guilty at wasting time with this.

Now all I have to do is learn how to write music, sing and play instruments – or alternatively learn how to love Simon Cowell.

Herts Police send helicopter to rescue hares

Thank goodness our tax money isn’t being wasted.

Apparently yesterday evening when all we could think about was going to the pub, the magnificent flying boys in blue were smashing a hare-hunting ring – although can two people be a ring? More of a hare-hunting colon.

Still anyway, the burrows will be a safer place today…

Clare Balding and the Power of Twitter

I must admit I was always a bit ambivalent about Twitter – in my blinkered view, it was a low-grade version of Facebook. And as I thought that was comprised mainly of people telling the world they were brushing their teeth, accompanied by photographic proof, I wasn’t expecting much. However, after a mate raved about how brilliant it was, I had a look and was intrigued.

The main reason I joined was to follow various people who I found amusing and also to write posts of less than 140 characters – because that’s tough. Grammar and verbosity are out of the window, but I’ve found that condensing a message into that tiny box is great fun. (more…)

Defending Science from the Doubters

There’s a good article here about the way that people ignore scientific evidence if it conflicts with their own opinions.

The recent decision by the BMA conference to recommend removing NHS funding from homeopathy is a good example. Despite there being no evidence that it works, there was an immediate backlash from irrational people who know that it works and believe that “science” can’t prove everything. (more…)
